POSTED: MONDAY, JUNE 29, 2009

ISLAMABAD: June 29, 2009 marked the completion of 100 days of restoration of Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other Judges, after an epic struggle of the lawyers community, supported by the civil society. The struggle had been very peaceful, organized and carried out in a disciplined manner. The people and especially the litigant parties suffered hardships due to the disruption of the judicial system on account of the illegal/unconstitutional acts leading to the removal of independent-minded judges in the Supreme Court as well as high courts. The people suffered delays in disposal of cases but maintained composure as they knew that the struggle had been for high objectives of supremacy of the Constitution, rule of law and independence of judiciary. Their struggle and prayers paid off and judiciary was restored, therefore, the judges returned to the court with honor and dignity. The judiciary as stood on November 02, 2007 has been restored in the same position except those judges who have been retired and their retirement emoluments have also been considered as if they were not deposed on November 03, 2007. In the Supreme Court, new judges have been elevated who are purely professional, they command respect and dignity in the society.
